We have received enough samples to complete the study. Thank you to all the breeders who have sent us samples!
We are very happy to announce that we have received funding to develop the parentage verification test for lovebirds. To read more about parentage verification click here.
We want to test around 1000 birds at 480 SNP markers to verify which markers are most robust to exclude non-parents. Therefore, we need blood samples! We are going to be testing lovebirds of all 8 domestic species from different family structures and inbreeding levels.
If you are able to send us samples please click here or email us at agapornis.genome.study@gmail.
It is free to take part and we only need a few drops of blood on a blood card that will be supplied to you. All costs will be covered by the study.
We will accept samples from all over the world, but please note we do require the samples to be in families – parents and chick(s) (doesn’t have to be young chicks, just offspring of the parents), siblings, uncles, aunts and nieces, nephews, grandparents and grand-chicks etc. The blood card will be posted to you with full instructions.
If you are able to help us, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
